500년 전통의 가양주

 

솔송주의 주재료는 쌀과 솔잎 그리고 송순으로 빚는다고 한다. 늘 푸른 소나무의 절개와 선비의 혼이 살아 숨 쉬는 명주를 만들기 위해 오늘도 정성을 다하고 있는 자세가 돋보였다. 그런 정성으로 솔송주가 정신을 고양시켜주는 술로 탄생했다. 물론 사람에 따라 다르겠지만 내게는 시음 주를 마시는 순간 그런 생각을 들게 할 정도로 술맛이 오묘했고 신비스러웠다. 얼마든 여유롭게 시음하고 가라는 판매원의 친절함 속에서 솔송주에 대한 남다른 자부심이 읽혀졌다. 시음 후 올 가을 차례주로 2병을 구입하고 내부에 전시되어 있는 내용도 꼼꼼히 살폈다. 유명인들과 더불어 노무현, 문재인 두 전직 대통령의 사진도 보였다.

 

정여창 고택을 보러 와서 생각하지도 않은 솔송주에 대한 내용을 알게 되었다. 이렇듯 예상치 못한 곳에서 대한민국 곳곳에 숨어 있는 보물을 하나씩 알게 되는 과정이 흥미롭고 재미있다. 솔송주는 이미 온라인 판매가 이루어지고 있고 한 번 맛본 사람은 계속 구매한다고 했다. 솔송주를 직접 빚어 판매하는 종가 댁인 박흥선 식품 명인의 경영철학이 돋보였다. 첫 째는 솔송주 술도가의 최우선 가치는 사람이며 술을 만드는 사람, 찾아주는 사람, 꾸짖어 주는 사람, 도와주는 사람 등 모든 이해 관계자가 소중한 존재임을 인식하고 이를 최고의 가치로 여긴다고 했다.

 

두 번째는 기다림의 미학을 실천하고 있다고 한다. 감동은 쉽게 만들어지지 않는 법이기에 새로운 기술에 대한 끊임없는 연구개발은 물론 좋은 술을 빚기 위한 헌신과 열정으로 최고의 한 방울을 얻기 위해 노력하고 기다리는 것이 중요하다고 했다. 좋은 술은 사람과 세월이 함께 만들어내는 익어감의 예술이라고 강조했다. 명인의 혼을 담아 최고의 술을 빚어낸다는 자부심이 느껴졌다.

 

세 번째로 전통은 당연히 계승되어야 하지만 과거의 방식을 무조건 고집하지 않고 세상과 치열하게 호흡하며 변화를 포용하되 새로운 가치를 더해 보다 나은 전통으로 승화시켜 나가는 것이 중요하다고 했다. 전통의 가치를 중시하되 현재의 가치에도 충실한 회사가 모토라고 했다. 마지막으로 술 본연의 가치에 충실하겠다고 했다.

 

기업의 경영철학에 하동 정씨 가문의 가양주에 대한 심오한 정신이 담겼다. 좋은 술은 좋은 벗과 마셔야 진정한 가치가 있는 법, 내가 산 두 병 중 하나는 차례 주로 잘 모셔두고 나머지 한 병은 좋은 친구들과 더불어 근사하게 풍류를 즐겨볼 까 한다. 술을 잘 마시지 못하는 내가 솔송주를 마실 생각만 해도 입안에 군침이 도는 것은 의문이 아닐 수 없다. 명주는 스스로 마실 사람을 선택한다는 말이 불현 듯 떠올랐다.

**500 Years of Tradition in Homemade Liquor**

 

The main ingredients of Solsongju are rice, pine needles, and pine buds. They put their heart and soul into making this fine liquor, embodying the spirit of evergreens and the scholar's integrity. The resulting Solsongju is a liquor that uplifts the spirit. While personal tastes vary, the moment I tasted it, the complex and mystical flavor convinced me of its exceptional quality. The seller's friendliness and encouragement to freely taste the liquor showed a deep pride in Solsongju. After the tasting, I bought two bottles for the autumn rituals and carefully examined the exhibits, which included photos of famous figures, including former Presidents Roh Moo-hyun and Moon Jae-in.

 

I came to see Jeong Yeo-chang's old house and unexpectedly learned about Solsongju. Discovering hidden treasures across Korea in such unexpected places is fascinating and enjoyable. Solsongju's online sales indicate that those who taste it tend to repurchase it. The management philosophy of master artisan Park Heung-sun, who directly brews and sells Solsongju, stands out. The highest value of Solsongju Brewery is people: those who make the liquor, those who seek it, those who criticize, and those who help, all are considered precious.

 

Secondly, they practice the art of waiting. Since genuine inspiration cannot be created easily, they continually research and develop new techniques while dedicating themselves to making the best liquor. They emphasize that good liquor is the art of aging, crafted by people and time. The pride in brewing the finest liquor with the artisan’s spirit is palpable.

 

Thirdly, while tradition must be preserved, it is important to embrace change and add new values to transform tradition into something better. They value tradition but are committed to present-day values as well. Lastly, they are devoted to the original values pursued by Solsongju and the inherent value of liquor.

 

The management philosophy of the company reflects the profound spirit of the Hadong Jeong clan's homemade liquor. Good liquor should be enjoyed with good friends to truly appreciate its value. I plan to keep one of the two bottles I bought for rituals and enjoy the other with good friends. It’s curious that just thinking about drinking Solsongju makes my mouth water, despite not being a big drinker. The saying that fine liquor chooses its drinkers suddenly came to mind.
